Installing a brass kitchen faucet isn’t very difficult, but there are a few things that can cause problems to the inexperienced. The installation itself is simple, but there are a few things you have to prepare before the installation.
Non-tarnish brass kitchen faucet:
A brass kitchen faucet may look extremely stylish, but it will soon become tarnished and there is little you can do then. Because of that, you should get a non-tarnish brass kitchen faucet. It doesn’t really matter how it is protected against tarnishing – most of the methods have similar effects – but every brass kitchen faucet must be protected against tarnishing!
Preparations for installation:
The first thing you have to do before starting the installation is put on some old clothes – the whole operation is a dirty job, even if it doesn’t look that way in the beginning. Of course, this isn’t true only for a brass faucet – every kind of kitchen faucet is equally messy in installation, especially if the house is old.
When you have the clothes, make sure that you have all the tools necessary for the operation, especially the basin wrench.
Shut the valves off!
Start the installation with shutting off the valves. Then open the old faucet and wait several minutes to make sure the water is not flowing. Otherwise installation of you new brass kitchen faucet will cause a small flood in your kitchen. Some old valves may not be able to stop the water from trickling – if that’s the case, find some way to minimize the losses – installing a new brass kitchen faucet may take from several minutes to a few hours.
Don’t overtighten the fittings and connections!
The last and only tip you can use during the installation (the rest is covered in every installation manual) – don’t overtighten the fittings – precision is more worthy than brutal strength. A brass kitchen faucet can be delicate at times.
