A door alarm system is an essential tool to protect your home or establishment. It provides extra protection against unwanted guests and most especially intruders. Having a door alarm system is a basic security measure not only at home but also for your business.
The two most common devices used for door alarm systems are contact switches and magnetic switches. Door chimes, microphone and speaker systems are the usual component of the typical door alarm system. Other advanced security systems have close circuit surveillance cameras.
Door chimes allows the occupant of the house to determine if someone is outside the door. Microphone and speaker system enables communication between the people on each side of the door. The surveillance camera allows the owner to view the person outside the door.
Several door alarm systems have passive infrared system that detects movements around the door’s vicinity. Some may even have keypad to activate and deactivate the alarm system. With the keypad operated security system, there is a specific security code to key in. It sets off the alarm if the wrong security code is inputted. Another type has automatic latching device that automatically locks the door if the alarm is triggered. If the alarm is accidentally activated the owner only needs to key in the right security code to deactivate the alarm.
The loud alarm is the most effective way to scare off burglars. Burglars avoid attention to lessen the possibility of being caught.
There are three types of contacts used in door alarm systems:
1. Recessed contacts – contacts concealed in door jams
2. Surface mount contacts – same function as recessed contacts but are not hidden.
3. Roller ball contacts – it is placed on the hinge side of the door.
The same switching principle applies on all three types of contacts. When the door is opened the electrical circuit acts as detectors, when the circuit breaks it also triggers the alarm.
Bear in mind that the most common entry point on every house or establishment is through the doors. That’s what makes door alarm system the basic yet one of the most important security alarm systems used to protect your home and business.
