Maple Jewelry Armoire: Nothing Can Be More Elegant Than Maple Jewelry Armoire

More and more people are opting to keep their jewelry in wooden armoires, such as a cherry or maple jewelry armoire. This is an alternative to the traditional jewelry box, which may not provide enough storage space or convenience for some, especially those with a large collection of jewelry and accessories.

Armoire is a French term for a tall cupboard or wardrobe with two doors than swing outward from where they meet in the middle of the armoire. Armoires take their name from their original purpose: storing suits of armor for knights and lords.

Present day armoires may contain shelves, which may be adjustable. They may also have more than two doors, and these doors may be of varying size. Nowadays, armoires are put to a variety of purposes, from storing clothes, to housing a computer system or a home entertainment system, to storing and securing jewelry and accessories.

Jewelry armoires are sometimes preferred to jewelry boxes because they offer more storage space, and also come equipped with jewelry-specific storage options.

A typical design would have a column of drawers down the middle, with doors opening at the top and along the sides. The drawers would be lined with a soft, usually dark fabric such as velvet to help protect (as well as display) the jewelry and accessories that would be stored there. Several of the drawers could come equipped with screens to attach earrings to, or ring rolls to keep rings neat and orderly, and the others would then be allotted to miscellaneous pieces such as brooches and tiaras.

The doors at the sides would open to hooks that can hold either necklaces or bracelets, and some armoires have two compartments for necklaces, and another two compartments for bracelets. Sometimes there is a top compartment as well, with perhaps a mirror and space for a few favorite pieces of jewelry.

Various woods are used for making furniture and armoires in particular, with dark and rich woods such as cherry often being preferred. Maple is also good choice that can also be found in a lot of pieces available on the market.

Maple wood is resistant to abrasion, and is odorless and tasteless. It stains well, and it can take a high polish. Maple wood is somewhat harder to work than other softer woods, but it can hold nails well and will glue moderately well. It can keep fairly well with the application of preservatives.

A maple jewelry armoire of the appropriate size and design can be a good investment for any bedroom and household. The jewelry armoire will provide a possible centerpiece or the room and can help (if it is tall enough) to connect other furnishings to a room’s high ceiling. Not to mention the unequaled security and convenience the jewelry armoire can provide by securing and organizing a jewelry collection!
