Antique Bathrooms: Thoughts About Decorating An Antique Bathroom

Antique bathrooms are in fashion now! More and more people are tired of spare modern bathrooms, often more similar to hospital corridors than to anything else. They look for something else – warm, friendly and comfortable and start to think about redecorating their bathrooms and change their style into something more antique. But how can we create such bathrooms?

1. Antique bathrooms & size: The first thing you should be aware of is that not every bathroom can be redecorated this way. Antique bathrooms need to have bigger furniture and if you lack the space, you will probably only cramp your bathroom. But don’t worry ...

unless it is really small, there is usually little problem with redecorating. As you know, many modern pieces of furniture aren’t really smaller than their more antique elder brothers. They only look smaller, so in case of most bathrooms, there is no real difference between the furniture.

2. Antique paint colors:

When you redecorate your bathroom, remember to paint the walls. Antique-style bathrooms look best if they have colored paint on the walls, usually green or blue. Don’t leave the walls white because white and creamy colors are distinctly modern.

3. Choosing suitable antique bathroom furniture:

Unless you really want to create a museum, you shouldn’t buy real antique bathroom furniture. While a hundred-year old cabinet might be a good idea, hundred-year old faucets will surely break down soon. If you’re going to create an antique bathroom, you should rather invest in some good contemporary copies. Besides their increased durability, you will avoid all the problems with plumbing – old faucets are usually incompatible with modern pipes.

And besides, that 100 year old antique bathroom cabinet certainly won't be happy in all that moisture!
