Fireplace Tools: Decorative Yet Practical Fireplace Tools
Fireplace tools (a poker, a shovel, a broom and tongs) need not be only tools. In house decorating everything can (and should) be also a part of decoration and fireplace tools are no exception here. At first it may seem strange, but imagine your fireplace tools neatly placed on some rack near the fireplace. If the tools’ style matches this of the fireplace, they will add a lot to the living room’s look. But if you don’t take your time to choose and place your fireplace tools properly, you will end hiding them somewhere and being embarrassed every time you take them out (“Look, his fireplace’s so beautiful, but the tools look like they’ve been chewed up a few times”).
Fireplace tool style tips:(1) When you choose fireplace tools, always keep in mind how your fireplace looks like. Don’t buy tools that will look completely different from your fireplace. Traditional tools on a starkly modern fireplace might look great ... IF you plan it that way. But don't let it happen by default. |
(2) In case of uncertainty, always go for the less decorative tools – the simpler they are, the more universal they will be.
(3) Try to buy your fireplace tools along with some kind of a rack – it is easier to buy the whole set than looking for the matching rack later.
Tool sizes:
Fortunately most of fireplace tools are of similar sizes. Remember only that if any tool would be longer than 20 inches, you won’t be able to use it precisely. As a rule of thumb, your fireplace tools should be at least as long as your fireplace depth plus 6 or 7 inches.
Price:
Your fireplace tools’ price depends mostly on their decorative value– the more you spend on them, the better looking they will be. As you buy fireplace tools for years, don’t economize too much – decide how much money you are prepared to spend and go for the best tools in your price range.
