Kitchen Island Design: Design Your Kitchen Island For Work Space & Storage

A clever kitchen island design is incredibly useful in any kitchen. Unknown even a few decades ago, either the kitchen island or the kitchen cart (or both) are now considered indispensible in quality homes.

Some Kitchen Island Design Hints

It is easy to get a kitchen island but designing it properly is another matter entirely. Having a kitchen island is fashionable, but if you don’t spend some time thinking about its design, the island may be a complete failure. It’s not not kitchen island design is difficult.

The problem is that you have to remember about a lot simple things at one time. Below there are some kitchen island design process notices that will make the kitchen renovation process a little simpler.

Is A Kitchen Island Really A Good Idea?

Tip number one: think if you really need a kitchen island. Spending a few weeks on designing and building a kitchen island only to discover that your kitchen is too small would be a catastrophe. The island is a terrific solution for a kitchen – as long as there is enough room! Only when you are positive that you will have enough space to walk and work freely does a kitchen island becomes a possibility. Then it is time to design it.

Making Your Kitchen Appear Spacious ..

A kitchen island takes a lot of space. Even the best design can’t change that. So why do we think that the island can make the kitchen look bigger? It’s simple – every kitchen island design implies that the island will stand right in the middle of the kitchen and our eyes just sweep over it. But keep in mind that even if it seems that there is more room, the surface remains the same.

… And Making It Actually Spacious

Fortunately, a kitchen island CAN save up a little space if the design is good. Of course no additional space will really show up, but the island can reduce the amount of unnecessary moving – everything will be close to each other. The invaluable "kitchen triangle" principle states that the stove/cooking surface, sink and refrigerator should be conveniently located to each other. We suggest that work space - such as provided by a kitchen island or portable kitchen cart, is equally a must-have.

If properly planned, either a kitchen island or a kitchen cart will provide a place for chopping, preparing and cooking, as well as always-valuable storage space. Hard to beat that!
